After months of uncertainty, we finally have news on the future of How I Met Your Mother.

Reported on Deadline, a ninth season has been secured for the show with its full cast and creators on board.

Fears of this season being its last came from the knowledge that the creators’ and cast’s contracts all ended after this eighth season. Yet, we can all rest easy for the time being, for a ninth season is supposedly set in stone.

Much of the controversy over the negotiations dealt with my love, Jason Segel who plays Marshall on the show. Segel was supposedly set on leaving the show, reportedly because of his “successful film career” but was turned around late in the day.

While I am overjoyed at this news, to me, this simply means one thing: more suspense is in store.

We know Ted (Josh Radnor) meets Mrs. Mosby at a train station after Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin’s (Cobie Smulders) wedding, but when will that be? The two are engaged but the writers of HIMYM are masters of suspense, so here’s hoping we meet The Mother by the end of this season – one can only hope.

My prediction? The season eight finale includes Barney and Robin’s wedding and ends with Ted at the train station meeting his future wife who glimpses up from her yellow umbrella just as the episode ends. That sounds about right.

I also assume that season nine would be filled with the journey of Mr. and Mrs. Mosby’s initial relationship, which probably involves Ted wanting to dump her at some point. I just hope they make it worth the eight year wait.

The big question though focuses on the central idea of the show: who will play The Mother? What actress could live up to eight seasons of build up?

My only worry about the news is that CBS has yet to confirm the report, which could mean it is a false report or the executives are waiting to make a big announcement.

Here’s hoping it is the latter.

Who do you think would play a great Mrs. Mosby? Let me know @buzzlightmeryl
