American Horror Story returned tonight after a short hiatus and was full of both insight and entertainment.

Arden (James Cromwell) revives Kit (Evan Peters) but does not tell him about Grace (Lizzie Brocheré) or Pepper (Naomi Grossman), whose intelligence has quadrupled since her encounter with the aliens.

Along with an increase in intelligence, an increase in Pepper’s fandom had to have come after her performance tonight. Like a boss, she patronizes Arden and proves she is not a freak nor incompetent. You go girl.

The Dark Angel (Frances Conroy) does not kiss Monsignor Howard (Joseph Fiennes) but instead warns him of the devil within Sister Mary Eunice (Lily Rabe). He finally gets a clue.

Mary Eunice continually enjoys patronizing and humiliating Jude (Jessica Lange) as much as possible now that she is without power. Mary Eunice simply calls Jude “G2573” – is this an attempt to reference Les Miserables with the Javert-Valjean/ 24601 relationship? Never before have the nuns or orderlies referred to the patients by their numbers, but now, after the release of that phenomenal movie, it has begun. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Thredson (Zachary Quinto) is back and attractive as ever. Mary Eunice has hired Thredson as a full-time employee and is revealed to be the one who released Thredson from his captivity. Thredson states that Lana (Sarah Paulson) is only alive because of the baby. Such a caring father.

Powerless but stubborn, Jude annoys Mary Eunice enough to the point where Mary Eunice and Arden put her through electroshock therapy – with an amped up voltage because Mary Eunice is sadistic.

If you’ve read one of my AHS blogs, you know how much I love Jessica Lange and her incredible ability to actually act; thus, I’m going to once again fan-girl over her performance in tonight’s episode. She is the absolute best thing about the show.

The Monsignor wants to save Mary Eunice and attempts an exorcism, but it fails, and she ends up raping him. What a turn of events. An even bigger twist occurs when it is revealed that Arden saw it happen. And boy, is he disappointed/ disgusted/ hurt.

Mary Eunice brought in a jukebox to replace the Jude record broke. After her electroshock therapy, Jude has memory issues, and Lana tries to help, which somehow leads into a hallucination of Jude’s where she sings “The Name Game” and dances along with all the other patients.

Mr. Murphy, I think you confused American Horror Story with Glee.

While I did love the moment – I mean Evan Peters’s face is absolutely priceless throughout the entire scene – I found it a bit odd, yet it somehow still had that AHS feel with the shaky camera angles and fast forward motions.

After Pepper’s taunting, Arden decides to end his experiments and kills all of his creatures. While I’m happy that monstrosity has ended, this storyline was never explored in depth and not much insight to what the creatures were was ever offered. I feel a bit cheated.

The Monsignor goes to Jude for advice about what to do about Mary Eunice. He apologizes for not believing her and conveys how she destroyed both of them; she responds by telling him to kill her. A bit forward, don’t you think?

Thredson sneaks into Arden’s office and finds Pepper delivering Grace’s baby. I understand a monumental moment is happening but what on earth would it be like to just walk in on something like that? Wow, that is party I do not want to crash.

The Monsignor tells Mary Eunice of his plans to save her soul, which angers the devil within, and the Monsignor takes the opportunity to throw Mary Eunice off the balcony where the Dark Angel takes both Mary Eunice and the devil.

If she is supposed to be the devil, then how was she killed so simply? Just a bit anti-climatic for my tastes.

In his office, Thredson reveals Grace and the baby to Kit. Thredson knows nothing about the aliens and thinks it is all Arden’s doing. Wrong-o.

Anyway, it was simply a plot to get Kit to tell Thredson where he hid the tapes. Kit gives him the location, but Lana already moved them, and she blackmails Thredson with them. What a BAMF. I love her.

Jude is trying to remember patients’ names when the Mother Superior (Barbara Tarbuck) visits. Jude then rambles about going to Rome with the Monsignor and marrying him; about Mary Eunice’s seduction of the Monsignor; and about the truth of Lana’s case. She pleads the Mother Superior to help Lana get out of Briarcliff. Please listen to her!

Arden convinced the Monsignor to let him cremate Mary Eunice. In the crematory, Arden prepares Mary Eunice’s body before climbing on the tray with her and incinerating himself along with her body. I was not expecting this.
